I won't be censoring content. My reason for
doing this is about principal and
practicality.
On the side of practically - I
tend to scrape content in bulk. Sometimes
some surprisingly dark content will be
hosted on older single creator sites. Then
there is the way that the world has changed
from 2000 when The Sims was released to now.
Some of the content that you'll see doesn't
play to audiences the same way that it did
in 2004 or 2009 or 2014 as it does today.
Unfortunately, it isn't only boho chic,
converse, peplum, and snap backs that make
the content of the archive 'aged'.
On the side of principal - Putting
in hard and fast rules regarding some of
this stuff is basically me making a personal
decision regarding what you should and
shouldn't have access to. The two things
that I've gone out of my way to avoid are
pedophilia, bestiality, and
anything that seems to be explicitly
advocating violent hate. The key word
there being EXPLICITLY and
ADVOCATING.
In the interest of
transparency, I'll explain my thought
process. Especially given the way the
definitions of these terms seem to be
sliding around wildly within fandom spaces.
Bestiality does NOT include furry related
works. Additionally, things regarding animal
welfare aren't so much included. While The
Sims 4 may not have included dog houses
because the developers thought that dog
houses were 'inhumane', you'll see nothing
like that here.
Pedophilia rules apply to child sims and
below. If it was on Pretty Little Liars (to
stay appropriate to the time period), it's
allowed on the archive. As stupid as that
sounds, that's literally the only way it can
explained. Since so much of the content here
was created by teenagers and young adults
creating things from their real lives it
would seem ridiculous to ban things that
really happen in many people's day-to-day
lives. Teenage pregnancy, sexuality, etc. If
you're mad, too bad. If it makes you feel
better we're more strict than Archive of Our
Own.
Regarding hate content - I will not be
banning anything that includes content that
refers to hateful content. No, Nazi
memorabilia in custom content form doesn't
not count as an explicit call for violence.
